ACE Plant Ltd Hosts the UK’s First Off-Highway EV Safety Training Course with BAGMA

Pioneering collaboration sets a new benchmark in technician EV safety training

ACE Plant Ltd has partnered with BAGMA (British Agricultural & Garden Machinery Association) to host the UK’s first dedicated electric vehicle (EV) safety training course for off-highway machinery. The one-day programme, Safety Essentials for Technicians: Off-Highway Electric Vehicles & Electric Outdoor Power Equipment Safety Guidance, took place at ACE Plant’s advanced EV-ready training and testing facility in Silverstone.

Developed and delivered by BAGMA, the course was enabled by ACE Plant’s specialist EV infrastructure, live electric machinery, and fully equipped workshop environment giving delegates hands-on experience with real high-voltage systems.

Built for the Future of Off-Highway Machinery

Designed for technicians, service engineers and maintenance teams, the course covers the safety fundamentals required when working on electric tractors, UTVs, mowers, telehandlers and other electrically powered off-road equipment. Delegates worked directly with machinery on site as they learnt isolation procedures, maintenance routines, charging protocols, battery handling, and risk-assessment best practice.

Course Content Includes:

  • Identifying hazards in electric and hybrid off-highway machinery
  • Safe isolation using Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures
  • Correct handling, storage and transport of EV batteries
  • Key legal frameworks including the Electricity at Work Regulations and PUWER
  • Risk assessment, PPE requirements and emergency procedures

Participants Leave With:

  • Confidence and practical competence in working with high-voltage systems
  • Skills for safe battery movement and handling
  • Clear understanding of legal obligations and industry best practice
  • A recognised certificate of attendance for compliance and safety audits

Industry Leaders Comment

George Wheeler, Managing Director, ACE Plant Ltd, said:
“We are proud to host the UK’s first off-highway EV safety course with BAGMA. As the industry transitions to electric machinery, safe operation, maintenance and charging are critical. Our Silverstone site—supported by our growing EV fleet—provides the ideal environment to deliver this essential training.”

Nick Darking, General Manager, BAGMA, added:
“ACE Plant is a leader in electric off-highway machinery, and their facilities allow technicians to train on real machines in a true testing environment. It’s the right venue with the right expertise, at the right moment for the sector.”

A Step Towards a Safer Electric Future

ACE Plant believes this initiative marks a significant step for agricultural and plant-hire industries as demand for low-emission machinery accelerates and the need for competent EV technicians grows.
