There are many exciting projects happening all of the world right now. From high-speed rails to water transfer projects, money is being pumped into worthy construction plans daily. The larger projects can cost literally billions of pounds. Don’t believe us? Here’s a list of some of the most expensive and biggest construction projects currently underway worldwide.
South-To-North Water Transfer Project
Costing a whopping $78 billion as of 2014, the construction of this system has already cost almost three times as much as the Three Gorges Dam. The three canals being constructed span over 600 miles each, and is expected to take 48 years to construct. Take a look at the video below for more information.
California High-Speed Rail
Got a spare £70 billion on you? Great! You’ll be able to build yourself a high-speed rail system that spans over 800 miles. The rail, which is planned to link San Francisco with Los Angeles, will have 24 stations and use high-speed electric trains. The construction has already been underway for 4 years, and is expected to last until 2030.
London Crossrail Project
If the aforementioned projects are out of your budget, don’t worry! There are plenty of cheaper construction projects out there to get involved in. The London Crossrail Project is costing only a mere $23 billion (Okay, perhaps not so ‘mere’). Expected to be in complete use by 2020, the track requires 26 miles of new tunnel which will connect 40 stations.
A city that was built in the 1970s, Jubail Industrial City has come a long way. The City is expected to expand to 6200 hectares by 2024. The city holds an exciting future, with plans for it to boast one of the largest desalination plants in the world, as well as a 350,000-barrel per day oil refinery. It is expected that the city will become home to another 50,000 more residence by 2026.
