Inspector Nasset: Prevention is Better than Cure

Inspector Nasset was set up earlier this year by the Moody family after a gap was identified in the market for professional asset inspections. Using market leading technology, they can offer a wide range of services to finance companies, manufacturers, importers, dealers and owners of a variety of machinery.

The inaugural Inspector Nasset conference and workshop was held at Green Park in Reading on 12 November 2019, primarily to familiarise finance companies with the service, and to explain in more detail how it works through presentations and live demonstrations. Representatives from over 20 different finance companies attended.

Jackie Moody kicked off proceedings formally welcoming delegates. This was followed by a presentation from Steve Moody, who delivered a very comprehensive overview of the Inspector Nasset service. He explained that the inspections are conducted using an innovative mobile phone app, which has been purpose-built for Inspector Nasset. This is used in conjunction with the mobile phone camera to take photographs and log the relevant data required for the inspection.

The mobile app is linked to an online portal from which the client can track real time developments. Each job is tracked and usually completed within 24-48 hours.

Steve Moody explained that Inspector Nasset can inspect “anything with a serial number or chassis number”.

The photos are taken of the asset, and each image displays a date and time stamp, as well as the GPS co-ordinates, and confirmation of the physical address.

The Inspector Nasset team have produced a comprehensive video showing how the system works and this was screened to delegates attending the conference.

Demonstrations of ‘asset inspections’ were also carried out during the day, professionally organised by Louis Moody. Three motor vehicle examples were used so everyone could see exactly how the technology works. It was certainly impressive.

The morning’s proceedings also included a number of guest speakers. Roger Garnham, Julian Weatherall and David O’Neil all spoke about their different areas of expertise on the subject of asset inspections. This included Classic Cars, Health and Safety on Site whilst carrying out Asset Inspections, and Inspection Coverage for Eire and Northern Ireland.

With the morning’s proceedings wrapped up, a tasty buffet lunch ensued giving delegates the opportunity to mingle and take in the lovely location that Green Park enjoys, with views out to a picturesque lake. Hard to believe it was just off the M4!

It was then time for the afternoon session. The first speaker was David Grosscurth who covered the subjects of Valuations, Identifying Fraud and Identifying CE Marking Emission regulations, covering construction plant and the consequences of non-CE Marked machines.

David was followed by Simon Theobalds of plant hire company, Hire Direct, who gave a very informative talk on how some so-called ‘customers’ today try to relieve plant hire companies of their valuable assets. He described the lengths they go to today to achieve this, which include setting up fake construction sites.

Up next was Mark Smyth of Trackunit. His presentation showed the benefits of their very cost-effective battery-powered tracked device, which can easily be fitted to any mobile asset. The unit can be fitted in many ways including magnetic mounts and significantly, is very hard for thieves to detect, or find. A great device to protect your assets.

Last, but not least, was a very interesting (but in some ways disturbing) presentation from Dave Luscombe of Datatag. He explained that without proper identification of assets and proof of ownership, Police recovery rates are extremely low, which makes grim news. Dave talked about the CESAR / Datatag scheme, which is another very cost-effective way to protect against theft and fraud.

Q and A sessions rounded off both the morning and afternoon sessions and gave delegates the perfect opportunity to field specific questions.

In conclusion, a very well organised and well-attended event, with plenty of interesting and informative content, that really brought home the conference theme of ‘Prevention is Better than Cure’.

Well done to all the Inspector Nasset team on delivering a superb event. We look forward to any further Inspector Nasset conferences aimed at other possible client sectors such as manufacturers, importers, dealers, plant hirers – in fact, owners of anything with a serial number or chassis number!
