The UK has experienced substantial growth in solar panel installations, with a 6.6% rise in solar capacity since January 2023, reaching 15.7 GW across 1.4 million installations as of January 2025. “We have a 250kW/hr solar power generation site with 960 ground mounted panels. This was installed in 2015. Dirty panels can reduce power generation and therefor income by up to 20% so it is essential to clean them effectively and efficiently at least twice per year. Over the years I have tried various different cleaning products, usually detergent based to work with different brush types. We settled on a power driven brush in 2024 and initially used a TFR product but this didn’t loosen the lichen spots. We then tried a solar panel cleaner which was more successful. In July 2024 and since we have been using Witham SolaBright Panel cleaner and this is the best yet! Sprayed on from a pressure washer lance and left to soak into the dirt, grime, bird droppings and lichen for approximately ten minutes, followed by the power brush and an excellent result is achieved.”
